Our third episode of Come and Brew It Radio starts our discussion about homebrew competitions and the reasons you should consider entering and attending them. We also start in on the subject of beer judging and the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP). Then we sample a few professional Great American Beer Fest award winning beers and discuss the flavor profiles of the styles and how well they match.
This is the first of multiple episodes related to competitions that are aimed at making you both a better competitor and a better brewer. The best thing about competitions is that whether or not you are competitive, it's a good learning experience to get your beer out there for strangers to try. You'll learn quite a bit, from both good and bad judges. Plus, having a few medals usually helps boost a brewer's confidence for future experimentation.

In future episodes, we hope to bring you BJCP experts who can also help guide you through the program and judging in general, along with continuing tastings evaluated against the official styles. Even if it's just so you understand those styles well enough to break out of them!
