This is a great all grain kit. I brew it every winter. I have tried it with and without the oak chips. I prefer it with the oak chips. I soak my oak chips in TX Strait Bourbon. The combination of oak and hints of chocalate make this a perfect beer for colder weather. Thanks to Rahr Brewery for sharing with home brewers.

First time buying through Texas brewing. Figured I'd give them a chance when Northern Brewer got bought out by InBev.

I live in TX, so I liked the idea of buying from somewhere local. For the ingredients of this kit, this is a really good value considering the ABV and the amount of grain used. The final product was great, in a side by side with the original - the SRM is spot on. Mine came out a little less roasty, even though I did opt to use the oak chips soaked in bourbon in the secondary. Probably more due to my mashing and set up than anything. I did end up doing a single decoction based on the size of my mash tun to mash out.

Overall really impressed with the quality of the kit and the appeal of brewing a clone of something local. Would brew this one again.
