Fritz and Erin Rahr founded Rahr & Sons Brewing Co. in the fall of 2004. In nine years, Rahr has exponentially grown its brewing capacity from 2,000 barrels a year to 20,000 barrels a year. The brewery has won over 50 nationally-recognized awards, including a Silver Medal at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival, a Bronze Medal at the 2008 World Beer Cup for Bucking Bock, and was the 2009 National Grand Champion at the United States Beer Tasting Championship for Iron Thistle. Fritz is involved with and continues to give back to the homebrew community in numerous different ways. This time, it's sharing a homebrew version of a beloved recipe with you.

Wonderfully robust, rich and full-bodied, with notes of plum, raisin and chocolate, Rahr's Winter Warmer recipe is crafted in the fine tradition of British holiday ales. Perfect for both holiday gatherings and quiet evenings at home. Add wood chips soaked in your favorite whiskey in the secondary to give this beer a whole other dimension of character.

So grab a six pack (or two) of Rahr's Winter Warmer at your favorite beer store this winter and brew up your very own batch too! Make sure to support your local breweries that give back to your homebrew community.

Because of the higher gravity of this beer, selecting a dry yeast will default to 2 packs.  You can manually change this.

Excellent Review by Patrick
First time buying through Texas brewing. Figured I'd give them a chance when Northern Brewer got bought out by InBev.

I live in TX, so I liked the idea of buying from somewhere local. For the ingredients of this kit, this is a really good value considering the ABV and the amount of grain used. The final product was great, in a side by side with the original - the SRM is spot on. Mine came out a little less roasty, even though I did opt to use the oak chips soaked in bourbon in the secondary. Probably more due to my mashing and set up than anything. I did end up doing a single decoction based on the size of my mash tun to mash out.

Overall really impressed with the quality of the kit and the appeal of brewing a clone of something local. Would brew this one again. (Posted on 12/10/2016)
