Full Bio: Nigel Curtis
Staff Bios:
Nigel Curtis
Homebrew Consultant
Background Info:
Emigrated from England in 2002. For reasons unknown to him, it took him 12 years to realize that he could recreate the English beers he missed so much at home in his own kitchen. He started brewing extract batches in March 2015 and transitioned to All-Grain in January 2016. He now brews on a three tier gravity system with two coolers and a boil kettle and started working at the shop in September of 2015.
Favorite Styles to Brew:
English Pale Ales
Awards/Achievements:
1st Place - Strong English Bitter - Bluebonnet Brew-Off 2016
3rd Place - Best Of Show - Stong English Bitter - Bluebonnet Brew-Off 2016
3rd Place - Alternative Fermentables - English Rye - Bluebonnet Brew-Off 2016
Worst Brew Day Experience:
His first solo All-Grain batch was a bit of a mess (written about here) because he took water temperature readings from a kettle thermometer that was not submerged in water, therefore giving inaccurate readings. It resulted in a mad dash to the store for new grain in effort to save the brew day. With new grain, he restarted the batch and learned a valuable lesson.
What Are Your Favorite Store Bought Styles Were Someone to Bring You a Gift (HintHint):
Nigle states that he is English, so will drink most things. Yet still remain partial to an English style beer. His "favourite" US brewery is O'Dells in Ft Collins, Co.
Other Comments:
Don't be afraid to ask questions. There is a great team of guys working at the store full of knowledge and experience. I have used them I encourage you all to do so too. Make brewing a social event....but don't drink until you're at the boil stage!!!
